It's important to secure your trading name as a Web address (eg acme-and-sons.com)
and, if you feel people will identify you by that alone, it is the best address
to publicise for your business web site. However, if you are seeking new visitors
or customers, you would be best to use a web address that reflects your business
sector.
For example, www.acme-plumbers.com instantly tells me what the business
does and I'm more likely to visit if I'm looking for a plumber. That doesn't mean
your trading name is redundant.
A facility known as "web forwarding" will allow both web addresses to be active,
with the trading name perhaps electronically "pointing" at the more meaningful
address.
